Award Categories and Criteria

Entries are open to all financial FIAA  members and non members of FIAA. Projects (entries) must be completed at the time of the nomination. Projects (entries) must  have been completed between 1 January 2016 and 31 July 2017. 

There are two major award categories: Design of the Year 2017 and Outstanding Achievement of the Year 2017. Winners from each of the categories below are in the running for a major award category. 

Best Kitchens Categories

  • Up to $20,000
  • $20,000 to $35,000
  • $35,000 to $60,000
  • Over $60,000

The contract price is to reflect the total price paid by the owner including GST. Entries must include all prime cost items, cabinetry, splashbacks, bench-tops, lighting and trades. Do not include the cost of appliances.

Best Commercial Furniture

Projects (entries) could included but not limited to: shop fittings, reception counters and work stations.

Best Free Standing Furniture

Project (entries) could include but not limited to: dining room tables, chairs, buffets, coffee tables, beds.

Best In-Built Furniture

Project (entries) could include but not limited to: wall units, fixed storage, entertainment units. Entries are for residential projects only.

Best Soft Furnishings

Project (entries) could include but not limited to: curtains, blinds, pelmets, cushions, throws, mattress. Upholstered projects such as padded head boards, sofas, chairs, ottomans, wall panels, are also eligible to enter under this category.

Trade Champion of the Year 

Recognising the work done by our trades in the Furnishing Industry.

Award Eligibility: Employees working part-time or full time in a trade position. Includes qualified and non-qualified trades people.

Workplace Champion of the Year

Recognising our "behind the scenes" workers, going above and beyond the job.

Award Eligibility: Employees working part-time or full time in the furnishing industry. Roles may include, but not limited to: administration, bookkeeping & accounts, sales & marketing.

Apprentice of the Year

Recognising outstanding achievement in our tradespeople of the future.

There are two categories to choose from: Cabinetmaker and Furniture

Award Eligibility: Entry is open 3rd and 4th year apprentices. Apprentices must have completed 2 years of training under the Furnishing Industry Association of Australia (FIAA) workplace based apprenticeship system. Must be aged between 18 and 29 years of age as of the 31st December 2017. Entrants must be located in NSW or the ACT.
